The Book of Proverbs - Part 3

The Book of Proverbs

Part 3

Building “A House of Cards”

Q: What do you think of when you hear the phrase

“Like a House of Cards?

__ Negative?

__ Positive?

__ Fragile?

__ Stable?

I want to turn what looks like:

A Negative into a Positive.

&

Something Fragile into something Stable.

“By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established; through knowledge its rooms are filled with rare and beautiful treasures.”

-Proverbs 24:3-4

Building your life “Like a House of Cards” according to Jesus.

1.Build on Rock [Jesus] rather than sand. (Matthew 7:24-25)

2.According to Bryan Berg (pictured below)

(See sermon video for more about Bryan Berg)

1. Be a “Card-stacking purist” as you build your life.

Bryan Berg does not bend cards, glue cards or manipulate them in any way as he builds.

Don’t compromise as a Christian.

2. Building with Squares and Right Angles

(Rather than the conventional wisdom of Triangles)

Squares

No one wants to be called

“Square”

“Lame”

“Embarrassed”

Humility is the fear [Respect] of the Lord; its wages are riches and honor and life.”

-Proverbs 22:4

“When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.”

 -Proverbs 11:2

Right Angles

Reminds me of doing things the “Right” way.

3. Every part of building your life will include parts that will be trial and error.

Invent your way out of the problem and keep going.”

-Bryan Berg

4. You can’t take it with you.

Bryan Berg destroys every one of his creations.

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

–Matthew 6:19-21

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.” Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?” Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

-John 14:1-6

Many people wrongly think that the Christian life is like

“Building a House of Cards.”

[Fragile & Easily Collapsible]

We can at the same time be both fragile yet non-collapsible

The Wise and Foolish Builders

Jesus said; “Everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.

We can at the same time be both Fragile, yet non-collapsible.

Trust in God above all things.

You are strong.

“Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power”

-Ephesians 6:10

And build your house one card at a time.
